It is no secret that white teeth are a symbol of health and beauty. While it can boost your confidence, using commercial whitening products can damage your teeth and gums. For that reason, we decided to share with you effective and safe techniques to naturally whiten your teeth and achieve the perfect smile.

Brush with activated charcoal

charcoal
  • Activated charcoal can help remove stains from coffee, tea, and wine. However it does not remove the stains on a deeper level.
  • It is safe to be used maximum once a week, if used more often it can cause enamel wear.

How to use

  • Dip a wet toothbrush into activated charcoal powder.
  • Brush your teeth gently for 1-2 minutes, then rinse.

Brush with baking soda

baking soda
  • Baking soda can remove surface stains on your teeth, however it does not remove the ones on a deeper level.
  • The alkaline nature of the baking soda can contribute to the overall oral health by neutralising acids in your mouth and potentially reduce decay.
  • Use it maximum three times a week and avoid agressive brushing.

How to use

  • Mix a little amount of baking soda with a little bit of water to form a paste.
  • Brush gently for 1-2 minutes, then rinse.
  • It can be mixed with toothpaste if you prefer.

Apply strawberry and baking soda

  • Strawberries contain natural malic acid which can help remove plaque and discolouration on the outer layer of your teeth.
  • This mix works great if not used more often than twice a week, because the acidity in strawberries and the abrasiveness of baking soda can damage the enamel.

How to use

  • Mash one ripe strawberry and mix with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to form a paste.
  • Use a toothbrush to apply the paste on your teeth and leave it on for 5 minutes.
  • Rinse with water and brush with toothpaste.

Swish coconut oil

  • Coconut oil can help whiten teeth through oil pulling practice.
  • It contains lauric acid which can fight the harmful bacteria in your mouth and prevent plaque formation.
  • This is a gentle whitening method which does not cause sensitivity and irritation.

How to use

  • Swish a tablespoon of coconut oil and keep it in your mouth for about 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with water before brushing your teeth with regular toothpaste.

Eat apples regularly

  • The texture of apples act like a scrubber which helps remove surface stains from your teeth.
  • Apples stimulate saliva production which helps wash away bacteria that can cause cavities.
  • For a more direct and effective approach, you can use a slice of apple to rub on your teeth.
  • Brush your teeth after eating or rubbing apples to remove debris.

Maintain a good oral hygiene

  • While the methods above can contribute to teeth whitening, a good oral hygiene is always essential.
  • Brush your teeth with regular toothpaste at least twice a day (morning and evening). Ideally, you should also brush after having a meal.
  • Floss regularly to avoid plaque and stains between your teeth.
  • Regularly check up with a dentist.
